Knowing your times tables is very useful, whether you're an adult or of school age. This neat little app will help you to learn your tables.

You can do them all and see how long it takes or focus on specific tables. My kids learnt their tables with this simple app, even getting competitive with each other, seeing who can get highest on the leader board.

Multiplying (or 'times'ing) any number by another number is the same as adding that number to itself the required number of times.
For example ** 5**x

Don't forget that **5**x**4** is the same as **4**x**5**, so **4**+**4**+**4**+**4**+**4** = **5**+**5**+**5**+**5**, this will help you out loads when you get to the higher tables.

If you do the tables in order then by the time you get to your **8**'s for example you will have already learnt up to **8**x**7**, only **8**x**8**, **9**x**8**, **10**x**8**, **11**x**8** and **12**x**8** will be new.
Most schools however teach them in a specific order, probably in year 2 or 3 its **2**s then **10**s then **11**s, then in the next year its **5**s, **3**s and **6**s, then the rest, this should make learning them easier!

Some tables are easier than others. Having some way of remembering your tables is really handy, below is a technique for each table... some of them are tricky though and really just have to be learnt.

Anything times zero is zero. e.g. **7 x 0 = 0**, **9567 x 0 = 0** and **1000000 x 0 = 0**

This is easy, one times any number is just that number. Simples!

e.g. **1 x 7 = 7**

Multiplying any number by **2** is the same as adding it to itself, see, **2**x**3**, is the same as **3**+**3**, they both equal **6**.

This ones a bit trickier, you can times by **2** then add that number again so **3**x**6** = **2**x**6** = **6** + **6** = **18**.

This can be done by multiplying the number by **2** twice, e.g. **4*****5**... **2**x**5** = **10**...**2**x**10** = **20**, so **4**x**5**=**20**.

These can get harder as the numbers get bigger, e.g. **4**x**8**.... **2**x**8** = **16**.... **2**x**16** = **32**.

This is quite an easy one to remember, **5**,**10**,**15**,**20**,**25**,**30**,**35**,**40** etc. odd numbers end in **5**, evens end in **0**, e.g. **3**x**5**=**15**, **4**x**5**=**20**

You'll soon get the hang of this!

Here is a useful little trick for the even numbers...**2**x**6**, **4**x**6**, **6**x**6**, **8**x**6**...

It's half of the **1**st number, put in front of the **1**st number, e.g. **4**x**6**... **4**÷**2** = **2**... put in front of the **1**st number is **24**, **8**x**6**... **8**÷**2** = **4**, **4** in front of **8** = **48**.

The sevens are a bit tricky, luckily you've learnt **7**x**1**, **7**x**2**, **7**x**3**, **7**x**4**, **7**x**5**, **7**x**6**. So we start at **7**x**7**=**49**, you just have to learn this!

**8**x**7**=**56**, if you rearrange this then it's **5678**, of course **7**x**8**=**56** as well, **5678**.

If you are struggling with a table, then it can often help to turn it round. So if you struggle to remember **8**x**7**, just remember it's also **7**x**8** (**5678**).

Hopefully you should know upto **7**x**8** now, then it's **8**x**8**=**64**, **9**x**8**=**72**... This is **10**x**8**-**8** = **10**x**8**=**80**... **80**-**8**=**72**.

You've probably noticed by now that **11** times any single number is just that number twice, so **11**x**8**=**88**, then just add **8** to this for **12**x**8** (=**96**)

Add a **0**, simple as that.

As you've probably noticed, for single numbers this is just the number twice, so **11**x**6**=**66**.

**11**x**10** = **10**x**11** = **110** (see above).

For the next **2** you'll just have you try and memorise them, **11**x**11**=**121** and **12**x**11**=**132**

Hopefully you've learnt most of these from the other tables, if you can't quite recall, then you can multiply by **10** then add **2** x the number, **12**x**8**... **10**x**8** = **80**, **2**x**8** = **16**, **80**+**16**=**96**

Don't forget at school you will probably learn the tables in a different order. After using these techniques to learn your tables you should be able to just remember them and recall them instantly when needed. Keep practicing!!

To start using the Times Tables Challenge click on the start link, then select the tables you's like to attempt.

Select the time that you have to answer the questions. This is initially set to 10 seconds, if you are just starting out then you may want to set this to 20.

Then click start button, this will start the times tables challenge. If you want to start again at any point, or if you change the tables or time then click Restart.

When you have completed the challenge, and you achieve a score, you'll be prompted to enter your name in the high score table, this will only show the top 10, so once there are 10 scores you will have to beat the lowest to get in the table.

You can clear the high score table by clicking on the clear button.
